Kathryn and Andrew’s Hot Water System
Unhappy with a shower pump and hot water ‘whole house’ pump creating unwanted noise at all hours of the day; when the shower pump started leaking, Andrew wanted to discuss other options.
We decided to install an unvented hot water cylinder and rationalise and redesign the pipe work. We used a Joule short cylinder which is wider and lower as a standard unit would obstruct the security box on the left. We removed the current cylinder, cold water storage cistern and expansion cistern in the loft freeing up space. When lifting the floor to make changes to the pipe work, Matt found a myriad of compression fittings, he replaced with new pipe work before laying a ply base for the new unit. With the new cylinder in position Matt connected the hot and cold pipe work and altered the pipe work to the existing heating system; replacing the central heating circulator and installing new zone valves and automatic bypass. The heating system was also converted from open vented to sealed using an expansion vessel (grey vessel) and robokit to reduce the risk of corrosion within the heating system. Kathryn and Andrew now have a quiet, high pressure hot and cold water system supplying two bathrooms, with more space for storage in the loft.
