OUR SERVICES

Estimates

If you are thinking about having some heating or plumbing work carried out, please call to arrange an estimate. Even if you are at the preliminary stages of your project and need some advice or a few ideas, we will be delighted to help. We carry out estimates on Tuesday and Thursday evenings subject to availability. All estimates are free and there is never any obligation to proceed with work.

Smart Heating Controls

Approximately 80% of the energy we use in the home is on heating and hot water. Using good time and temperature controls will help ensure this energy is used efficiently. Smart heating controls have become a popular way to manage heating systems because they can be controlled via smart phones. One of the main benefits being that you can control your heating when you are away from home. We can give guidance on the best controls to suit your home and lifestyle.  Of all the smart controls we install our favourite is the Honeywell Evohome. Not only can you control your heating and hot water remotely but it allows you to provide independent time and temperature control to up to 12 zones/rooms. This means that you can heat individual zones/rooms only when they are needed. We also think the Nest Learning Thermostat is a fun intuitive stat with a very stylish design.

Smart heating controls are a great way to complement a heating system that is good working order, rather than to solve any underlying issues the system may have. If the system has been extended and altered over the years leaving some areas cold, the system may need balancing, or pipe sizing may be an issue. Sometimes where spaces have been opened up during an extension, insufficient radiators have been installed leaving the area cold in the winter months. Resolving these issues first will ensure that the smart heating controls meet your expectations. We can help establish these issues during a site survey and propose a solution.

Landlord Safety Reports

If you are a Landlord and have gas appliances in your rental property then by law you need to have a Landlord Gas Safety report carried out annually at each property you own. This is a service that we can provide, and we also service each appliance checked at no extra cost. Whether you use us or another company please ensure that you use a Gas Safe registered engineer, you can check online at: www.gassaferegister.co.uk. This website also offers a wealth of useful information about gas safety, including the dangers of Carbon Monoxide poisoning.

Central Heating Design and Installation

The central heating system is considered to be the heart of the home, delivering heating to each room and providing hot water where needed. Whether you are looking for a completely new system, to upgrade your old system, upgrade your controls or improve your current system, we can help. We offer a full underfloor heating design and installation service for an entire house or just one room. We maintain and repair underfloor heating systems.

We also specialise in rationalising and reorganising central sections of large domestic systems where various additions and alterations have been made over the years. It is important to address these issues when upgrading your system so that it can work effectively and efficiently.

Hot and Cold Water Supply

We specify, supply, install, maintain and repair all types of domestic hot and cold water systems.

Repair and Maintenance

If you have a problem with your central heating or hot water system you may wish to arrange a call out. Within the call out charge we will travel to you (up to a maximum of half an hours travel each way at no extra cost) and allow an hour to investigate and do our best to repair the fault. If we do not have the means or time to repair, we will do our utmost to diagnose the problem and offer a solution so that you can plan for any further costs. If you have a small plumbing job that needs carrying out at your property a call out may also cover this, subject to the complexity of the job. A standard Call Out can be arranged between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00pm Monday to Friday subject to availability.

Evening Call Out & Repairs

If you would prefer an evening appointment they can be booked for 7:30pm on a Tuesday or Thursday evening subject to availability. An evening call out costs more than a day time call out due to working unsociable hours.

Boiler Servicing

A boiler service is a thorough check of a boiler to ensure it is running safely and as efficiently as possible. Servicing may also flag up any potential causes for a future breakdown. It is recommended that you have your boiler serviced yearly in line with manufacturer’s specifications. If it’s been a year (or two) since your last boiler service, now is a good time to get it booked in. We also service gas fires, cookers, hobs and gas fired water heaters. This is also an ideal opportunity to ask any questions about your central heating and for us to help you set up your current controls ensuring you get the most out of your system.

Whether you use us or another company please ensure that you use a Gas Safe registered engineer, you can check online at: www.gassaferegister.co.uk. This website also offers a wealth of useful information about gas safety, including the dangers of Carbon Monoxide poisoning.

Unvented Hot Water Systems

Unvented hot water systems provide stored hot water at mains pressure. This is usually to provide showers with good water pressure and volume without the need of a pump. We can specify, supply and install an unvented hot water cylinder to suit your requirements provided you have adequate cold mains supply. We also carry out service and maintenance on unvented cylinders. Always ensure that your plumbing and heating engineer is suitably qualified to work on unvented hot water.

Water Softeners

Water softeners will remove all limescale from your hot and cold water supply. The benefits are:

  • Makes cleaning easier.
  • Protects plumbing fittings and services from limescale damage and build up.
  • Reduces blockages on shower heads.
  • Conditions fibres as well as skin.
  • Helps to keep glassware pristine.

We supply and install softeners for most types of property.

Energy Efficiency & Renewables

Helping our customers use their heating and plumbing systems effectively and efficiently is a key area of our business. Whether it’s installing a new high efficiency condensing boiler and energy efficient controls or just some advice on how to use your current system better, we want to ensure that our customers are getting the most out of their systems. Although we have not ventured into the renewables market yet, we have been keeping a keen eye on its developments over the years and are looking at where we can start to concentrate our efforts in this area.

Our Portfolio

Carolyn and John’s Boiler Room and Airing Cupboard.

Carolyn and John redesigned one side of their property to make a more sociable kitchen and living area, including a utility, pantry, shower room and cloakroom. They also redesigned the upstairs creating a new master bedroom, en suite and new shower room. John was keen that the boiler room looked the part. We redesigned the central sections of the heating and hot and cold water systems, installing a NU-Heat underfloor heating system in the new downstairs areas. The complete heating and hot water system is now controlled by a Honeywell Evohome system.

Louisa and Jonathan’s Tithe Barn

Connecting to an oil boiler and log burner as a combined heat source for underfloor heating, central heating and hot water.

Elena and Hugo’s Dutch Barge 2015

We were asked to design and install a heating and hot water system with a difference. Hugo aim was to have a heating and hot water system which was powered by a log burner and gravity circulation alone. With help from my first boss Harry, we designed a system to cope with the low head room and still provide heat to three radiators throughout the length of the barge. The thermal store also had a solar coil in preparation for solar thermal provision and a coil for cooling the barge engine. A specially designed stainless steel expansion cistern, built by a friend of Hugo’s, was mounted in a roof hatch to keep height to a minimum. A one off installation.

Catherine and Andrew’s Boiler Room

After moving into their new home, Catherine and Andrew needed to upgrade the central section of their old heating and hot water system as they found they had insufficient hot water and the property was difficult and expensive to heat.

We removed the existing central section of the existing system, including the boiler, water cylinder and roof cisterns and installed a new system consisting of a condensing boiler, unvented cylinder and water softener. After installing new radiator valves throughout the property and re balancing the system to ensure an even distribution of heat, a Honeywell Evohome system was installed to provide independent time and temperature control to twelve radiator zones and hot water.

The property now has high pressure hot and cold softened water to all services (except the drinking water tap) providing great pressure and flow to showers and all other appliances. The heating is now easier to control, making the whole house more comfortable. All of the control and scheduling can be carried out using the Honeywell Evohome hub or using an app on their mobile devices.

I wanted to write to you and formally express my thanks for your work. I have no hesitation in highly recommending your services. You will be the first person we contact for all our future heating and plumbing needs.

S. Day

Sam has carried out two projects for us: replacing the pump that serves our ensuite bathroom and installing a new central heating boiler in the kitchen. We have been entirely happy with the outcome of both projects: the new pump resolved a long-standing problem and the central heating boiler and associated controls work perfectly. But equally important is Sam’s approach to his work. He is very professional and gives you confidence that he really knows his stuff. He explores carefully what you want to achieve, explains the technical options and possibilities clearly and gives you a recommendation that you can understand. On site he does the work when he says he will, works in a neat and systematic way and, unlike some, does not treat your home as if it was a building site. He brings a wide range of skills to his work and operates in a helpful, polite and friendly way. It is clear that he wants you to be completely satisfied with the quality of his work.

We are delighted with our new boiler and all of the pleasures of hot water and warm rooms. We wanted to write further as we have been so impressed by the professionalism of your work which covered: Your attention to detail in the original quote, where you had fully scoped the materials to be used and the work to be performed each day. You had clearly understood all our requirements and provided suitable solutions, given the constraints of working in the basement; The week you spent in our home, which considering the size of the job we had asked you to carry out, was almost completely stress free. This was very much due to you being on site every morning on time and carrying out each day the tasks you had set out in your original quote. This gave us confidence throughout that you were in control and that we would not be with out hot water for no more than you had originally proposed; The tidy way in which you carried out your work, clearing up as you went and tidying away all your tools and equipment each evening. This ensured that the children didn’t trip over your tools and we were not left feeling we had a cuckoo nest in the evenings. We therefore have no hesitation in recommending you to any potential client and have indeed already passed your contact details onto a number of friends. Thank you again.
