Useful plumbing and heating tips and maintenance checks for your water softeners
Make sure your shut off valves operate correctly
Identify your internal and external cold mains water shut off valves (you should have both). Make sure
they work and that they are accessible. This should be carried out annually to prevent them seizing. If your shut off valves don’t move, please don’t force them and call a professional.

            Check for leaks or distress
Check mechanical areas every six months for signs of leaks or distress. (Airing cupboards, boiler
cupboards, roof cisterns (if safe to do so), water softener cupboards, UFH manifolds, bathrooms and shower rooms).

            Salt Check Tip
Why not set a phone reminder to top up your salt. The frequency will depend on how much salt you typically use. For your softener to keep the water soft it must be consistently topped up.

Is your water softener dripping or using too much salt?
It could be possible that you have a small leak within the property. Check for dripping taps, a W.C letting by, or leaks around the property. It could also be a faulty softener.

A correctly installed and set up water softener will completely remove the need to descale your shower head and other fixtures and fittings – a real timer saver!
